About TAFIThe Tennessee Alliance for Financial Independence (TAFI) is a collaboration of partners that fosters asset development and preservation programs that increase the financial stability of Tennesseans. This is accomplished through three main focus areas: Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) outreach and coordination of local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) free tax preparation programs; promotion of Asset Development and Preservation services; and other asset-building programs; and Public Policy Education. TAFI was formed in the fall of 2007 as a result of the first statewide EITC Symposium, which was funded by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. TAFI is an initiative of the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. The collaboration includes a diverse mixture of United Ways, for profits, non-profits, government, financial institutions, and individuals. These members are involved in a variety of local and statewide financial initiatives including Bank On initiatives and Individual Development Accounts. Membership is free and is largely governed by the TAFI Advisory Board. This Advisory Board is comprised of members from across the state representing both the geographical of the state and the organizational diversity of the TAFI membership.
