"About 5 years ago I was sitting in a tax preparers office waiting for my turn when a friend called and told me about a VITA site near my home. At first I thought it was a joke. Who would do taxes for free? I walked right into the VITA site without a wait and the volunteer took my information and prepared my taxes. My friend was right, there was no charge!

The volunteer also gave me the name of a place to call to get help with a budget and gave me ideas on how to save part of my refund. I’ve been to VITA now for 5 years and each year I tell my family and friends about the service. I love VITA and it has helped me to budget, keep a savings account and now I qualify for my own home through Habitat for Humanity.
