TAFI supports Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to help ensure that Tennessee's working individuals and families are filing for the tax credits they have earned and to help them save hundreds of dollars in commercial tax fees and predatory "rapid refund" loans.

For many families, tax time may be one of the only chances they have each year to put some money into savings, which is a critical step towards achieving financial independence. By providing asset-building resources, such as increased income through the EITC and personal asset building, TAFI helps working families to overcome barriers to long-term financial stability.

Families making a household income of less than $49,000 can access VITA sites all over the state and have their taxes prepared for FREE! Our VITA sites ensure that eligible families receive their often unclaimed Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Taxpayers can receive refunds in 7-10 days with free e-filing and direct deposit. Sites also provide free e-filing and free direct deposit. Interested individuals need only to dial 2-1-1 from anywhere in the state to find a VITA site nearest them.
