Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Free Tax Preparation

For many families, tax time may be one of the only chances they have each year to put some money into savings, which is a critical step towards achieving financial independence. By providing asset-building resources, such as increased income through the EITC and personal asset building, TAFI helps working families to overcome barriers to long-term financial stability.

TAFI parents with 10 financial stability coalitions representing 48 counties across Tennessee providing funding, technical assistance, and resources for the VITA program. United Way of Metropolitan Nashville is the fiscal agent for both the IRS and DHS VITA grants.

VITA sites ensure that eligible families receive their often unclaimed Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Taxpayers can receive refunds in 7-10 days with free e-filing and direct deposit. Sites also provide free e-filing and free direct deposit. Interested individuals need only to dial 2-1-1 from anywhere in the state to find a VITA site nearest them.
